The Sveti Martin Spa & Golf Resort is located in the north-western part of the Međimurje County, the so-called upper hilly region. It is surrounded by exceptionally beautiful nature (forests, meadows, vineyards, orchards, fields, streams, the Mura River and rich animal life) and traditional rural architecture (castles, wine cellars, churches and small villages). The locals have a tradition of decorating their gardens and houses, confirmed by a series of awards presented to Sveti Martin na Muri as the best-maintained small community of Croatia (up to 5,000 inhabitants).

Geographically speaking, the Međimurje County is the northernmost and smallest Croatian county with 130,000 inhabitants bordering with Slovenia and Hungary. As it is located only 30 km from the Austrian border, it offers more connection routes to Central Europe than any other Croatian county. In the Croatian context, it is well connected with the entire Croatia by the highway running through Zagreb (a little more than half an hour to Zagreb and 2 hours to Rijeka).

The Međimurje County puts a lot of efforts into nature conservation. The area surrounding the Mura River is an ecologically protected zone at the European level with two animal reserves (the protected zone stretches across as much as 18% of the County). The Sveti Martin Spa & Golf Resort is located only 5 km from the Mura River, i.e. from Sveti Martin na Muri, where the oldest raft on the Mura River and a restored floating mill from the beginning of the 20th century are found.

In terms of culture, Međimurje has a long history, of which the most famous part is the Zrinski era. This wealthy noble family influenced the economic, cultural and military life of Međimurje. Historically speaking, the Međimurje County was closest to Austria and Hungary; hence it took over some of the attributes of its northern neighbors such as organized bureaucracy, so that it is today the leading Croatian county in terms of keeping property records.
